World Child Labour Day: Ministry of Labour Aims to End Child Labour by 2025
World Child Labour is being observed today as is done each year on June 12. In its observance, leaders in the Ministry of Labour were at La Escuela Secundaria Tecnica Mexico (ESTM) secondary school where they hosted an informational event. According to Chief Executive Officer, Valentino Shal, the ultimate goal is to end child labour by 2025 which aligns with the country’s labour strategy. A notable part of this morning’s event was the signing of a memorandum of understanding with the Progressive Sugarcane Association.
With World Day against Child Labour being observed tomorrow, it is important to note, that, Belize is the most recent country to become a part of the Regional Initiative for Latin America and the Caribbean Free of Child Labour. Essentially, what it means is that Belize signed onto an agreement that will see the country join forces with others in fast-pacing actions geared at preventing and eradicating child labour. The signing took place last month when Minister of Labour, Oscar Requena, was in Guyana for the 12th International Labor Organization. The theme for this year is, “Social Justice for All. End Child Labour”.
