The opening of the 13th session of the National Assembly was held in Belmopan. Today’s event began at nine o’clock this morning with the election and swearing in of a Senate President along with the swearing in of thirteen Senators. This was followed by the swearing in of 30 Parliamentarians on Independence Hill. It was a somber event as the ceremony began some minutes after the news surfaced of David Vega’s passing. We will have full coverage of today’s event on Monday’s newscast, but for tonight we bring an excerpt of an address delivered by the newly elected and sworn-in House Speaker Valerie Woods.
As we noted 30 of the 31 elected officials were sworn in today. In addition there was an address by the Governor General His Excellency Sir Colville Young and Prime Minister John Briceno.
