Emile Brackett, who made headlines earlier this year after a video surfaced of him trying to sexually assault a teenage girl, was fined in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court today. The sixty-three-year-old Belize City resident appeared in court where he pleaded guilty to a single count of attempted sexual assault of a minor. Brackett had initially pleaded not guilty when he was arraigned in April, but upon hearing the possible sentence, changed his plea to not guilty. In his court appearance, he made his final plea change and begged the Chief Magistrate to show him mercy. The Chief Magistrate said that she considered the severity of the crime action; and the fact that the victim was 13 years old at the time. She also considered the fact that he pleaded guilty early; is a first-time offender, his age, and his remorsefulness, and refrained from imposing a custodial sentence. The magistrates imposed a fine instead of jail time. That fine was $1,000 plus a $5.00 cost of court which Brackett must pay by February 14, 2025. On Thursday, April 25, 2024, Brackett was caught on video by a concerned citizen, rubbing the minor’s face and attempting to kiss her.
