Police have formally arrested and charged 18-year-old Denver Bevans, a fisherman, for the murder of 30-year-old Geovani Lennan. Charges were levied against the teenager on Saturday and he was taken to court today.  He appeared before Chief Magistrate Sharon Frazer who remanded him to the Belize Central Prison until January 7, 2020.  No plea was taken as the matter is an indictable offence.  The murder charge stems from Thursday night’s murder of a firefighter, Geovani Lennan.  Lennan had just left the home of his girlfriend on Welch Street when he was attacked from behind and fatally shot.  According to Fire Chief, Colin Gillett, Lennan was an exemplary firefighter and was about to be promoted before his life was tragically cut short. He was also a basketball player and was due at a game at the Belize Civic Centre the night he was killed. Bevans was also arraigned on a charge of aggravated assault upon a police officer.  This additional charge came after Bevans pointed a firearm at Corporal Brizenio Chub when he was captured inside Roger’s Stadium shortly after the murder occurred.
