2024 Atlantic Hurricane Season Begins

2024 Atlantic Hurricane Season Begins

After a drawn out heatwave, low river levels, wildfires and drought, portions of Belize saw its first rainfall for the month of May on the 27TH.  It was quite the refresher, but also served as a reminder that the hurricane season is upon us.  Saturday, June 1 marked the opening of the season with isolated showers across the country.  Forecasters are saying it will be a season to contend with as the projections are for four to seven major storms in the Atlantic Basin.  While the rains would be welcomed considering the prolonged dry season, preparations are necessary as the probability of Belize being affected by any of the named storms is higher than usual.  Authorities have begun making appeals months ago advising the public to have an emergency plan in place.  According to the Chief MET Officer, the government agencies have already developed a plan of cooperation and collaboration in the event of a storm or hurricane.

As has been the tradition, Love FM is also prepared to bring full coverage in the event of a hurricane or named storm.  The hurricane season ends on November 30.
