In what has been a bloody weekend in Belize, the first murder came on Friday night, on the San Andreas Road in Corozal Town. This murder follows the three bodies that were found between Thursday evening and Friday morning. 23-year-old, David Martinez, was reportedly socializing with friends in a yard when his assailants approached him and opened fire. Assistant Commissioner of Police, Joseph Myvette, told us more details.
ACP Joseph Myvett: “On Friday last sometime around 8 pm Corozal Police was called to an area on San Andreas Road in Corozal Town where upon arrival they saw the motionless body of a male person later identified as David Martinez 23 years of the said address. He appears to have had a gunshot injury to the right lower back. As a result, he was transported to the Corozal Community Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. What the police know so far is that the deceased along with two other persons were conversing inside of his yard when two male persons dressed in black approached the yard from the nearby bushes and fired several shots in their direction, one of which caught the deceased. So far police have detained several persons and are following several leads. We are also appealing to the public to assist us with whatever information that they have that can assist in this investigation.”
According to ACP Myvette, Martinez had been working in San Pedro and had recently come home to Corozal. Love News understands that twelve expended shells were found at the scene and that two young men were detained for questioning.////////
