The Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital is celebrating 24 years of service to the people of Belize. A ceremony was held yesterday, also saw the unveiling of the hospital’s Accident and Emergency waiting room. During her speech, Chief Executive Officer, Michelle Hoare spoke about the many improvements the hospital has seen.
Michelle Hoare, CEO, Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital: “24 years ago we closed the door at the old Belize City Hospital and moved to our current location. In our excitement we’ve faced and still face constraints and challenges nonetheless we all continue our fights and triumphs each day. Here we are family, a family with a vision to aim for the highest quality healthcare delivery for the country so as to alleviate the pain and suffering of the clients we serve. We’ve achieved both physical and operational improvements. An upgraded operating theater and labor delivery unit, improved human resource capacity, strengthened work processes, systems and services. We’ve been able to maintain our hospital baby friendly status, we’ve upgraded our emergency services. We continue to work to provide a safe and comfortable working environment and for the first time since June of this year we have a certified Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital Authority workers union. Immediately following this service we will be cutting the ribbons with our partner the Belize Hospital Auxiliary and dedicating and reopening our newly renovated A&E waiting room.”
