27 Cuban migrants caught in Cayo District

Members of the Police Department’s Mobile Interdiction Team (MIT) conducted an operation earlier today and as a result, they detained 27 Cuban migrants.   They are suspected of having entered Belize illegally through the western border with Guatemala with the help of three ‘coyotes’. Love News understands that three people – two Belizeans and a Guatemalan – are suspected of facilitating their illegal entry into Belize. We also understand that the group comprises 11 males, 13 females and three children. We are told that one of the women is pregnant. Following their arrest near the border, they were handed over to immigration authorities where they will be officially charged with immigration-related offences. This arrest follows another earlier this week in which 17 Cubans were also caught in the country illegally. That operation was also undertaken by the MIT.
