$303.4 million in circulation before Christmas

According to the Central Bank of Belize, as at December 6, there was a total of three hundred and three point four million dollars in circulation. The country has seen an increase in the amount of money in circulation when compared to November by nine point one million dollars since, at November 30, the amount of money in circulation stood at two hundred and ninety-four point three million dollars.  The Bank pointed out that the fourth quarter of the year is normally marked by an increase in imports to gratify shoppers’ demands for the Christmas holidays. As a result, the Bank said that the amount of money in circulation for this month should increase by the end of December.  At the end of December 2016, the amount of money in circulation stood at three hundred and eleven point one million dollars. Apart from holidays, other factors that influence the amount of money in circulation are paydays, infrastructural projects, elections, and in cases of a special request, for example, domestic banks assisting with sizable pay-outs like a second payment to sugarcane farmers and fishermen.
