Belize Defense Force (BDF) soldier Private Fidel Williams has returned from Clinic De Merida over the weekend. Private Wiliams was stationed at the Sarstoon Forward Operating Base when his eye was injured during an accident on the 14th of November, 2018. The eye was removed during a surgery at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital (KHMH) and he was kept under observation by the Ophthalmologist after which he was transferred to the Force’s Medical Center in Ladyville. Private Williams, in the company of a Combat Medic, from the Force Hospital left Belize on Thursday for Clinica De Merida where he underwent an assessment for a prosthetic eye replacement. Because the wound is still fresh the prosthetic, the doctors at Clinica de Merida agreed to complete the task at the end of March when the affected area is fully healed. The Belize Defence Force Benevolent Fund makes provision for compensation to Private Williams for the loss of his eye as he continues his career as a BDF soldier.
