The Government is trying it’s best to rebuild the lists of people living in constituencies across the country that could have the most significant impact on the results of the next General Elections, as you know people have a tendency to vote in areas where they grew up rather than where they currently live. The numbers are picking up in the re-registration exercise. For the first two weeks, the Elections and Boundaries Department has received a total of thirty-five thousand nine hundred and fifty-one applications. During the first week, sixteen thousand, six hundred and seventy applications were filed while during the second week, a total of nineteen thousand two hundred and eighty-one applications were filed. Registering centers remain open in all thirty-one electoral divisions country-wide to expedite the re-registration exercise. As has been pointed out by the Department before, applications will be accepted, as long as electors are in the line at the designated time for the closure of the Centers. The Department encourages qualified persons to participate in the re-registration exercise, especially during this time when additional Centers are open to facilitate the process.
