On Tuesday afternoon, 36 men and women took the oath to become nationalized Belizeans in a ceremony held by the Department of Immigration and Nationality Services in Belmopan. The new Belizean citizens are from at least thirteen different countries, among them Bolivia, Russia, Turkey, Jamaica and Bangladesh. It was the first time the department conducted the swearing in ceremony at the immigration department compound. CEO in the department, Edmund Zuniga addressed the new Belizean citizens on behalf of Minister of State Beverly Williams.
“Because you’ve been here five years you know about our constitution that guides the way we do things in Belize. You know that the constitution contains your rights but it also gives you what your obligations are as Belizeans so please review those rights, review the obligations in particular because we want you to be able to carry yourself properly why you are here with us in Belize. Let me once again welcome you to this swearing in ceremony and welcome you as brand new Belizean Citizens.”
This was the second swearing in ceremony held by the department of immigration for this year.
