Belize is the only Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) participating country in Central America and our country has been selected to host the 2015 annual governance meetings of CXC. The CXC governance meetings are held annually in one of the CXC participating countries. The meeting of the School Examinations Committee took place yesterday in Belize City while the 47th meeting of the council was held today at the Radisson Fort George Hotel. The School Examinations Committee is meeting on the actual examinations and technical issues while the council will address administrative issues along with staff and financial matters. Glenroy Cumberbatch, Registrar of CXC spoke about the two day meeting.
Cumberbatch also mentioned Belize as a “growing star” with increased number of students sitting the exams as well as some issues they have with the number of participants of the exam.
David Leacock Chief Executive Officer of Ministry of Education spoke about the participants growing since the government has subsidized CXC payments. Leacock says that Math is an issue in Belize that can use some improvements but not just in Belize but in the entire Caribbean.
Both meetings were on December 3 and 4 at the Belize Biltmore Plaza and the Radisson Fort George Hotel respectively.
