41 bales of suspected cocaine confiscated from drug plane; six persons detained

Police Commissioner Chester Williams led an operation off the Coastal Road that yielded a substantial amount of drugs, a plane and the detention of several individuals.  During yesterday’s operation, two persons were injured as a result of an exchange of gunfire.  Commissioner Williams held a press brief in Belmopan where he noted that the intel came to them of an aircraft coming out of Venezuela.

The men detained are four Honduran nationals, one Ecuadorian and one Mexican, among them are the two pilots of the aircraft.  According to Commissioner Williams, the men are yet to be charged.  There was no cash found on the King Air twin engine aircraft which remains intact and will be safeguarded at the Belize Defence Force hangar.  In total, the police removed one thousand two hundred and ten parcels of cocaine from the aircraft.  Each label had the mark, O-R-O and C-A-T.  As mentioned by the Commissioner, there were two vehicles involved; one without a license plate and another with Honduras plates.  Again, the reports from the police indicate that no Belizean was detained in this incident.
