46-year-old motorcyclist Motorcyclist Killed in Spanish Lookout Area Crash

A late-night traffic accident in the Spanish Lookout area has claimed the life of a 46-year-old motorcyclist. Police say Jaime Haroldo Catalan, a labourer of San Marcos Village, died following a collision between two motorcycles on the road connecting Duck Run One and Billy White Village shortly before midnight on Friday.  ASP Stacy Smith explains what investigators believe led to the fatal crash.

ASP Stacy Smith, Belize Police Department: “Police have detained one male person in connection with an ongoing investigation into a road traffic accident which led to the death of 46 year old Jamie Catalan of San Marcs Village. The investigation commenced on Friday 21 August, 2026 just before midnight when police were advised of a traffic accident between Duck Run and Billy White Village. Upon the arrival of the officers they observed an unresponsive Catalan whose body exhibited grave injuries and also observed on the scene was a damaged Lifan brand motorcycle which was believed to have been operated by Catalan. Also on the scene was another motorcycle which was off-road which had minor damages which was being driven by the detained male person. So far the investigators believe that a collision occurred between the two motorcycles. However the circumstances of the collision remained under investigation. Police have obtained a urine sample from the detained individual.”

Love News understands that 26-year-old Javier Pinelo was overtaking Catalan when oncoming traffic forced him to move back into the lane. Catalan’s motorcycle reportedly struck the rear of Pinelo’s motorcycle, causing both men to fall onto the pavement. Catalan sustained severe head and body injuries and was pronounced dead at the San Ignacio Community Hospital.  Pinelo suffered several abrasions and a wound to the back of his head. Police say officers detected the smell of alcohol on his breath, and a blood specimen was obtained for testing. Investigators also found that the motorcycle he was allegedly driving was neither licensed nor insured.  Pinelo remains hospitalized under police guard.
