Prime Minister John Briceno also confirmed to Love News that this year’s sugar cane price estimate is sweeter than sugar itself. The fourth estimated average cane price for the 2022 crop is fifty-nine dollars and seventy cents per ton cane. BSI/ASR says that the improvement from the third estimate is due to a combination of factors including improvement in the estimated price for EU raw sugar, US raw sugar, CARICOM DC sugar, export molasses price and a slight improvement in Ton cane per ton sugar. Briceno says this is excellent news for cane farmers.
Hon. John Briceno, Prime Minister of Belize: “The price has improved. As we know the price on the world market has improved, has gone up and that by extension goes – I think it’s somewhere around fifty seven, fifty nine I don’t have the exact number I got the letter just yesterday but yes the price has gone up and things are looking good for our farmers and I hope that we can continue going in that upward trend.”
