Cacao farmers from across southern Belize are being invited to attend the first Annual General Meeting of the Maya Mountain Cacao Cooperative Society Limited. The meeting will mark the official registration of the cooperative, representing a significant milestone as farmers begin a new chapter under a farmer-owned organisation. The AGM is scheduled for Saturday, August 22, beginning at 9:00 a.m. at the Julian Cho Technical High School Auditorium in the Dump Area of Toledo District. Minister of Agriculture, Food Security and New Growth Industries in Belize is the Honorable Rodwell, shared with love what the purpose of the AGM is.
Organisers say the meeting is a historic occasion and are encouraging all Maya Mountain cacao farmers to attend and witness the official registration of the cooperative. They add that farmers’ participation is important as the organisation moves forward in strengthening the local cacao industry through a cooperative model. Love news spoke with Marketing Director of Maya Mountain Cacao Cooperative, Jose Koy and he shared with us how elated he is about tomorrow’s AGM.
This is a collaborative effort that includes over 500 cacao farmers from southern Belize.
