The Reformation Team Belize is hosting its 4th annual Men’s Conference under the theme “Reclaiming your identity as a man”. The conference hopes to connect to the men of Belize and enlighten them about the meaning behind being a man and their role in society. According to Garing Carballo, the facilitator, the conference is free of cost and is open to all men around the country.
Garing Carballo, Facilitator: “The theme for this year’s conference is “Son of a Father, reclaiming your identity as a man.” and we’re having it this starting tonight at 7 at the Trinity of God Church at two and a half miles George Price Highway. We’re inviting out all men, young and old, you can come by, the event is men only from Monday to Thursday but on Friday we’re gonna have a family atmosphere so we’re inviting out all the families to come out but from Monday to Thursday it’s men only and we have guest speakers from the US and it’s going to be an awesome week. These kinds of events are life changing events and so what we do at these events is we encourage, we empower and we also give the tools that men need to go forth to be better fathers, husbands, workers and leaders in their community and so it’s very important.”
The conference will have various guest speakers from the US who will be sharing their views about manhood. According to Kerm Thimbrel, guest speaker, the absence of a father inside a household has negative impacts on the children especially young men. He noted that these negative impacts can be linked to crime and violence in the country.
Kerm Thimbrel, Guest Speaker: “How will our young men be able to learn in school if they’re emotionally wounded ? It’s impossible, we’re asking them to do something that they can’t do. Our job is to be able to reach out and lend that helping hand and help them to identify, to fix their identities, why it is that they are experiencing the things that they are on a daily basis and so for me I think this is just a sacred duty and we’ve got to do it together. There is no reason why we should not have these men conferences, we have to do more that Belize can heal.”
Martin Seca, Guest Speaker: “My assignment is to speak on purpose, the purpose of men, what are we here for, what is our role, what is our position, what is our responsibility, the place of influence. I’m also going to be speaking about work, what does work have to do with men because men identify alot to what they do, what they construct, what they build, what they point to their families and say ‘that’s what I did’, ‘that’s what I do’ I’m going to be speaking about that and the importance of doing a quality excellent work. I’m also going to be talking about stewardship. Stewardship meaning becoming a manager of something that does not belong to you but making it prosper. One of those things is not really just economics because we know economics evolves everything but also the stewardship of your words, the things you say to people, the things you say to your sons, your daughters, your wife, the community so your words are very important as a man. I’m also going to be speaking about work purpose stewardship and I’m gonna be overall encouraging men to take their position as fathers, as husbands, as influencers for their community.”
The conference begins tonight and will end on Friday and will be held at the Trinity Assembly on the George Price Highway.
