A special luncheon was held in honor of President Tsai Ing-wen. Belize and Taiwan share long-standing bilateral relations spanning almost 34 years. This was underscored by the Governor-General of Belize, Dame Froyla Tzalam.
H.E. Dame Froyla Tzalam, Governor General of Belize: “I have to say that when I look at the scenario of Taiwan and Belize and I shared this with the president, we are small and we have untold potential because our people live by certain values. Rights based democracy, the right to self determination and that no matter who we are, where we come from because I heard from the president that Taiwan is a country of multiple cultures who have arrived over the centuries, Belize is no different. And so here we are in this room, a small room, a little too small I would say because I can’t really hear what people are saying but it means that we have to get a little closer, and that can be a good thing. That despite the challenges we have ahead of us I am confident that give what has happened over the last – I wouldn’t even want to say twenty four hours because it’s been less than twenty four hours since you landed on Belizean soil – that a lot of has been accomplished from a bilateral perspective but also from an international perspective because what we do here speaks volumes about who we are a as people our values, our culture and our outlook.”
