A subsidy for eggs?

Will there be a subsidy for those who produce eggs? This question has been raised for two reasons: the economic challenges the country faces and because of those difficulties, other sectors have received subsidies. We put the question today to the Chief Executive Officer Doctor Osmond Martinez from the Economic Development Ministry. Here’s how he responded.

Dr. Osmond Martinez, CEO, Ministry of Economic Development: “In terms of the eggs, I believe Cabinet will have to take a decision on that you know and it will have to go before Cabinet. One of the hardest and most difficult things is that Government does not print money. Government actually lives or survives out of the revenues that we are getting from taxes and the Government has been able to subsidize fuel, the agro-productive sector, the tourism sector to a certain extent and even the bakery industry and that is a reflection of the growth on GDP. But, it also has a seal though you know that is this. I mean not everything can be subsidized. However, that will have to be a decision from Cabinet.”
