Accused of Sexual Assault, Calwin Codd Remanded to Prison Amid Additional Charges

23-year-old, Calwin Codd was remanded to prison after being accused of sexually assaulting a woman. A 41-year-old woman reported that yesterday at around 5:30 a.m, she was walking from the direction of Courts Belize on the Phillip Goldson Highway enroute to First Stop Taxi Stand located, when she was approached by Codd. She alleges that he dragged her off to the sidewalk behind a green zinc house, put his hands in her blouse and began to rub her breast. The woman says she struggled with her attacker and managed to escape. At his arraignment today, Prosecutor Alifah Elrington objected to bail being granted on two grounds: Codd is indebted to the court, and he has additional charges that are expected to be laid. Codd currently has a rape case pending before the court for which he is out on bail and a conviction for robbery of which he has $3,000 pending. Additionally, Codd is expected to be charged with attempted escape since he tried to escape court today. Codd was remanded to prison until February 19.
