Assistant Commissioner of Police Marco Vidal continues on mandatory bed rest after suffering a hemmoragic stroke on Tuesday evening.  Vidal was heading the State of Emergency operations when he fell ill.  Today, Love News asked the Police Commissioner for an update on Vidal’s current condition and if there will be someone holding over his post as Operations Commander.

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police: “I’m not going to discuss taking over Mr.Vidal’s job at this time. He is still alive and well I must say and to hear the Commissioner already discussing giving his job to somebody I don’t think that will speak well for him. Mr.Vidal is a very determined individual, I’m sure he is going to come back and he’s going to be well and we’ll be able to function as a police officer. I was with him this morning and he’s in very good spirits, he’s walking around. In our briefing from the doctor yesterday the doctor said that his condition has improved significantly and so he’s well on his way to recovery. In the meantime I am going to oversee operations and I also have Mr.Broaster who is the National Head of Operations so it will be between myself and Mr.Broaster in the interim and then we’ll see how long Mr.Vidal is going to be off for. If it’s going to be for an extended period then I might well look at finding someone to put there temporarily until he returns and then we’ll decide how we’re going to do changes if need be. In terms of the operation the operation has gone well, the teams are still out looking for those persons who are still not in custody and hoping that we’ll be able to find them. We found some yesterday in a hotel in Belama, we found some in Cayo so some of them have fled the city but like I said if they go in a sewage we’ll flush them out. We’ll find them.”

Vidal has been known to the public as a nonsense officer and was once the head of the Gang Suppression Unit (GSU).
