The Ahmadiyya Basketball League Belize brought home silver medals in both U18 and Open categories in the Copa Gatorade 2019 tournament. The tournament had participating teams from across Central America and the US. According to Naveed Mangla, President of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at, the tournament was a great experience for the players.

Naveed Mangla, President, Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at:“We were undefeated throughout the regular games before the playoff for both divisions but unfortunately we were not able to get the gold medal in both categories but we came short and won silver for both. I believe this was a great experience for the organizers, the tournament itself was well organized and for the players themselves I think they learned a lot from it and hopefully they can take the experience home and build on it for upcoming tournaments. To be realistic I believe some of the players were a bit nervous because of playing on that stage particularly when you’re the visiting team and the whole crowd is all Mexican cheering for their own team so sometimes it does get to you but experiencewise we believe it was amazing because these kids need to learn that in life not everything goes your way; sometimes there will be people that will be cheering against you but you still have to do the right thing.”

At the final segment of the tournament it was Belize vs Costa Rica; however, the team lost by just a few points. Love News spoke with some of the team members who told us what they will take home after the tournament.

Umelo Henderson, Member of Ahmadiyya Basketball Team: My experience was pretty fun out there meeting new friends and getting to play against other people from other countries like it was very competitive. We got to find talented guys just like us going at it, it was pretty fun. I loved it. It was one of the memories I will never forget. “

Kyron Molina, Member of Ahmadiyya Basketball Team: Well I would advise everyone to just come out because the amadiyah people are love, they are always love, they always show respect to everybody and are always humble.”

Clycen Wade,Member of Ahmadiyya Basketball Team: Well I believe that the amadiyah organization brings the young people together so that they can stay off the streets and other things.”

Naveed Mangla expressed that next time the team will be coming home with Gold Medals.
