Come this Sunday and the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at community in Belize will kick off their 6th annual Ahmadiyya Basketball league. The Ahmadiyya BasketBall league will have participation from various teams across the country. The Basketball league engages youths not only in local basketball tournaments but also in basketball camps, friendly games, and international games. According to Rodvern Lino, Commissioner of the Ahmadiyya Basketball league, after six years there has been a steady growth in numbers within the basketball league.
Rodvern Lino, Commissioner, Ahmadiyya Basketball League:“We’ve been doing a whole lot trying to reach as many young people as possible. We’re moving into our sixth league, it is very exciting and highly anticipated. We start on Sunday at 9am at the SJC Gym. We’ve grown this year to accommodate five age categories, we normally would have been doing either one or three, this year we’re doing five. We have registered so far forty teams hailing from all over the country of Belize and also from bordering Mexico. We’re running three months so we will be doing something like eight Sundays and then moving into playoffs and then finals. We will have an all-star break in the middle and we’ll be having our highly anticipated slam dunk and three point competition during that time.”
Lino noted that youths who want to join this year’s basketball league can visit this weekend’s convention to sign up.
