Alberto August Calls for Police Shake-Up After iPhone Claims

In related news, UDP’s Alberto August is calling on Police Minister Julius Espat to cut out the corruption.  In a social media post this morning, August strongly criticized members of the department and asked Espat to continue, what he described as a necessary cleanup, of the police department, specifically calling for the removal of Commissioner of Police Dr. Richard Rosado.  In the very same post, August claimed that he recently received two mobile phones back from the police, including an iPhone 13 Pro Max. He said that after attempting to use the device, he discovered it had become permanently locked after too many incorrect passcode attempts had allegedly been entered while it was in police custody.  According to August, a phone technician informed him that the iPhone had been permanently disabled after an incorrect passcode was entered on an eleventh attempt. He questioned who had been attempting to gain access to the device without a court order while it was in police possession, suggesting the phone had been accessed on May 30, the same day police reportedly seized it. The allegation is interesting as investigators had not obtained any judicial authorization to examine the contents of the device.
