Allan Pollard’s Political Aspirations Setback After Rejection

Allan Pollard’s Political Aspirations Setback After Rejection

One candidate’s position that stands out is Allan Pollard.  Pollard was hoping to elevate to national politics like his colleague, Kaya Cattouse, but despite his high numbers at the city council polls a few months ago, he was rejected for Port Loyola.  Sources in the PUP say he may have setback his political career due to ill-advised decisions made this year.  Among them is when he attempted to run against Mayor Bernard Wagner in the March municipals; followed by jumping the Queen’s Square ship and attempting to contend with Port Loyola’s Gilroy Usher.  While he had the support of several members on the national executive, he reportedly didn’t enjoy the Prime Minister’s support.  PM Briceno told the media today that Pollard has a future in politics and this is just a slight setback.

Hon. John Briceño, Prime Minister of Belize: “Allan Pollard is a very, very talented young man. A young man that has a very, very bright future in politics. And as such we believe we need to be able to work with him and to mentor him and to prepare him for leadership at a national level. We, again, it was at the recommendation of the national campaign committee that we should not allow Mr. Pollard to go in for a convention. And there are many reasons and he, you know, the issue is that Mr. the area representative have been doing a pretty good job. And when you look at the results of the City Council elections, the area representative Minister Usher won that area for the city council two to one obviously is because he is working. But again, we believe that Allan Pollard has a bright future in politics and we are going to work with him. He is young yet he is, I think, 29 years old. And so, you know the energy of youth, you know, and the impatience when you’re young, you know, you want to get everything done. We just have to work with him and hold his hand and I’m very confident and who knows, one day he could probably even be Prime Minister.”

Reporter: But as a political veteran, do you think it was wise for him to abandon his efforts in Queen’s Square?

Hon. John Briceño, Prime Minister of Belize:  “I think we want, I want to leave it as that. I think that he has a right to decide where he believes he can be best, where he can be most effective and we will continue working with Allan.”

The only PUP endorsement that has been concluded to date is for Stann Creek West, represented by Rodwell Ferguson Senior.  In another interesting piece of information, Love News understands that the country may be looking at a general election early next year, prior to June 2025.
