Alleged extortion case involving immigration officer reported at Philip Goldson International Airport.

The Ministry of Immigration has received reports of an alleged extortion at the Philip Goldson International Airport (PGIA).  A citizen of Sierra Leone was recorded on video, claiming that a female immigration officer extorted him for one thousand dollars when he attempted to leave Belize on July 10 enroute to Cuba.  The video runs for fifteen seconds, and for legal reasons we did leave out the name of the officer being accused.

Efrimea James Kojo, Victim of Alleged Extortion: “I’ve been dealing with her for three days and I came here yesterday to grab my money, the rest of my money. They gave me nothing and they took my passport in. She owe me a thousand Belize and I’m gonna need that money.”

The Sierra Leone resident, Efrimea James Kojo, is wanted for sexual battery, a charge stemming back to 2020 in his home-country.  Love News reached out to the Director of Immigration, Gilroy Middleton who commented via text, quote, “I was updated of a situation related to alleged extortion.  That specific situation is being addressed as per the Public Service Regulations.  In reference to due process, procedures, and protocol.  So as not to prejudice or disrupt the situation, I will not comment further.” End of quote.
