When the Belize Coast Guard started out in 2005, they were operating on a budget of just over three million dollars, a skeleton staff and limited resources. To date, the annual operational expenses are almost at ten million dollars justified by a significant increase in their team, as well as equipment, sea vessels and infrastructure. In this morning’s presentation, Vice Commandant of the Belize Coast Guard, Elton Bennett made a presentation on their financials.
Several million dollars invested into the Belize Coast Guard have been done so via contributions and grants from external agencies. Bennett explained.
These expenses are expected to increase as the BCG gets closer in achieving their long term goals which includes the expansion of their members.
