Amendment to Treasury Bills Debated in House Sitting

Elected Government officials met at the National Assembly today for a Sitting of the House of Representatives in Belmopan.  Today’s Sitting marks the first such meeting that Prime Minister Dean Barrow has been unable to attend thus leaving the Deputy Prime Minister, Patrick Faber to represent him.  The meeting was called to order just after ten o’clock that saw the presentation of reports from select committees followed by questions from the Parliamentarians of the opposition.  Four bills were introduced namely vie General Revenue Supplementary Appropriation Bill, the amendment of the Treasury Bill, Income and Business Tax Amendment Bill and the Mutual Administrative Assistance in Tax Matters Amendment  Bill.  Six Bills were brought for a second reading while three motions of Government Business were tabled surrounding projects involving Caribbean Development Bank. In the first half of today’s meeting much debate was given to the amendment of the Treasury Bills.




The Treasury Bills amendment speaks to raising the limit of principal sums to one point two million dollars from The five hundred million dollar limit where it currently stands.  Notably the Government has raised the limit on two occasions; the first being from one hundred million dollars to five hundred million dollars within a one year period.  Today’s meeting ended just after four o’clock this evening.
