An American telecommunications agent faces a fine after pleading guilty to drug importation in Belize. 32-year-old Delon Junior Charles admitted to importing 22 grams of Class B drugs into Belize on Saturday, July 12. Charles, who arrived at Philip Goldson International Airport, claimed officers inflated the weight by including the bags. He stated he only had two 3.5-gram bags of cannabis. Magistrate Ludlow Black ordered Charles to pay a $305 fine immediately or face three months in prison. The magistrate considered Charles’s early guilty plea but emphasized the seriousness of importing drugs. Police arrested Charles at the airport after finding two packages of cannabis in his luggage. He was later charged and allowed to contact the US Embassy. Charles is scheduled to depart Belize on Wednesday, July 16.
