American National Fined for Spreading False News in Belize

American national, Joseph Anthony Camp, was in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court this morning where he pleaded guilty to the charge of Spreading False News.  Camp was arrested and charged last week after he took to social media from the Raccoon Street Police Station.  In that live report, Camp alleged that the Police had shot his brother-in-law and had failed to take him to the hospital.  He furthered his report by saying that the brother-in-law, 18-year-old, Jaylon Jones was profusely bleeding.  It turns out that the teenager was merely grazed during a pursuit by Police following the murder of the Charles James, a member of the Belize Coast Guard.  Camp was fined six hundred and five dollars, with a deadline of June 28 to pay.  If he fails to pay the fine by the deadline, he could face up to three months in prison.
