Another Belizean Falls Victim to COVID-19

Tonight, 693 additional cases were confirmed. Unfortunately, there is one new death. During our interview with the KHMH CEO, we asked Chandra Nisbet-Cansino for an update on how the hospital is fearing off against the fourth wave of COVID.

Chandra Nisbet Cansino, CEO, KHMH: Thankfully to our talented staff and our doctors and the COVID unit we’ve been coping very well. I must say that increase in the numbers of well yes it is the only convenient now we don’t have that corresponding increase in the numbers of patients that is coming  to the COVID unit. We are seeing a slight increase, yes but it’s nothing like the delta variant during that period of time when the numbers were much lower than these so thank God for that. The numbers are manageable at this time, the deaths are much less than we were having at that time as well so we are hoping and praying that this is how that the trend will continue this way and hopefully we start to see how light at the end of the tunnel.

Reporter: OK so the stress levels have decreased?

Chandra Nisbet Cansino, CEO, KHMH: I would certainly think so yes at this time and it’s more manageable, we have more nurses to patient ratio and that certainly helps with the management and care of the patients and so we are hoping that this trend will continue.”
