Anthony “Boots” Martinez Pursues Legal Action Against Election Department Over Recall Petition

Retired politician Anthony Boots Martinez says he’s not giving up on having Port Loyola Area Representative Gilroy Usher removed from office. Yesterday, Martinez filed a High Court claim against the Election and Boundaries Department after the entity squashed his recall petition. Martinez believes he was able to meet the threshold of signatures despite the department stating otherwise. Yesterday, Minister of Public Service Henry Charles Usher weighed in on the developments and clarified and dispelled Martinez’s claim.

Henry Charles Usher, PUP Chairman: “The threshold was not met. The Chief Elections Officer gave a very detailed report, submitted to the Governor General and I think copied to the Governor General, then copied it to the Chief Petitioner in this case.”

Martinez’s claim comes after the department refused his request to have the one hundred and eighty-eight rejected names on the recall petition verified after he had the persons resign in the presence of a Justice of the Peace.
