This afternoon a jury comprised of five females and three males unanimously returned a guilty verdict after deliberating for three and a half hours in the trial of 36-year-old Anthony Crawford. Crawford was charged with the “use of deadly means of harm with intent to cause grievous harm” in relation to 13-year-old Shanaya Whylie. On November 13, 2016, Whylie was shot in the face whilst at her neighbor’s yard. The following day, police were able to arrest Crawford after Whylie identified him as the shooter. Crawford was unrepresented while Crown Counsel Riis Cattouse prosecuted the case. The case was adjourned to November 29, when Justice Colin Williams is expected to hear mitigation pleas.
