Anthony Sylvestre Sworn In as Belize’s New Attorney General

As we have been reporting, Magali Marin-Young has demitted office on June 30, 2023.  Attorney Anthony Sylvestre was officially sworn in today. Her Excellency Dame Froyla Tzalam, Governor General of Belize swore Sylvestre in at an official ceremony at the Belize House.  In attendance was Prime Minister John Briceno. Sylvestre was appointed by the Prime Minister on June 28 with effect on July 1. Sylvestre takes office enjoying the full support of the Prime Minister and Cabinet and has been praised for his extensive knowledge of legal matters as well as his resolve to be a servant of the people. As the outgoing Attorney General, Marin Young said that she hopes the work put in for the Civil Assets and Recovery Bill as well as several other crucial pieces of legislation will continue under Sylvestre’s tenure.
