The Love Foundation through funding from a CARSI Grant hosted a workshop today in Belize with participants, referred to as Account-a-preneurs. This particular project focuses on accountability and anti-corruption practices within the government. Today’s session saw the participation of several public officers who were tasked to identify loopholes in the system that could lend to corrupt practices. According to Love Foundation’s Managing Director, Deborah Erskine, the idea was not only to identify the loopholes but to devise practices that could plug them, lend for more transparency in government.
Erskine noted that the 3-day training is based on an interactive approach that allows the participants to properly analyse the importance of promoting accountability in their respective offices. One of the key facilitators is Jaco Roets, an independent consultant out of South Africa’s Accountability Lab. Roets told Love News that the idea of bringing change into public offices makes the sessions exciting and engaging.
The workshop will conclude on Sunday, but Roets says there is another phase that will see additional engagements.
The Accountability Lab in South Africa is an organization that was activated in 2012, with an aim to work with young people across the globe to develop innovative ways for accountability, transparency and open government. The Love Foundation was awarded a grant back in January last year from CARSI for fiscal transparency.
