ANU Commander Demoted After Failing to Meet Requirements

This next story is one of those that normally go under the radar, and one that the Police Department would not normally publicize.  Tonight, however, we can tell you that the commander of the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) has been demoted.  It is a story that the Police Commissioner carefully responded to, and that may be because of the involvement of the United States.  Love News learnt of the removal of Assistant Superintendent Roberto Novelo as the ANU Commander and the elevation of his deputy, Francis Williams.  We didn’t hear the details of the move, and the Commissioner didn’t share much other than to say that the now former commander failed to meet certain requirements put in place by the US Government.

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police: “The ANU has a commander. The substantive commander as you rightly said was removed. We do have a MOU with the US government in particular the DEA as it relates to the administration of ANU where the commander and all members must undergo certain procedures every three years and if you don’t pass those procedures then you’re removed and so the former or the substantive commander did not meet the requirements and so he was removed and the deputy commander is now the new commander.”

Reporter: He failed a lie detector test.

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police: “He did not meet the requirements.”

Love News had gathered that Novelo had reportedly failed a polygraph test administered by US officials.  We further understand that the US is intrinsically involved in the ANU as much of the financing is provided by Uncle Sam.  Our newsroom is yet to confirm where ASP Novelo will be stationed next
