A resort manager from Roaring Creek Village, Cayo District, lost his life after being injured in a road traffic incident in Belmopan City on Friday night. According to the police, at around ten-thirty, 49-year-old Ari Vanzie Senior was on his motorcycle at Forest Drive’s intersection with Slim Lane when an SUV collided with him. The driver of the SUV, who was coming in the opposite direction, was attempting to make a left turn when the incident occurred. Vanzie was flung to the pavement and sustained severe injuries. He was rushed to the Western Regional Hospital, where he succumbed while receiving treatment on Saturday morning. Yesterday, Cayo correspondent, Fem Cruz, spoke to Vanzie’s stepfather, Miguel Guzman, about the tragic incident.
Miguel Guzman, Stepfather: “He had just left his home to go and buy some food for his family and he was on his way back when apparently a vehicle ran into the side of his motorcycle crushing him and fatally injuring him. He was transported to the Belmopan Hospital where the doctors tried their best to revive him but I think the nature of injury was so severe that he could not have survived. The family was in shock, all of us were in shock. We were there praying for him seeing if God would have mercy but you know God has better plans for him. I really regret that an incident like this had to occur but we must be careful as drivers and motorcycle riders because there are people out there who are very inconsiderate and who do not respect the traffic laws. I am not too certain as to what actually happened or how the accident came about. I know there have been some release on the media who have mentioned that it was a head on collision but my understanding is that it was not a head on collision it was a collision that a vehicle ran into him literally because he was on the right of way and the vehicle was coming out of a junction.”
