Armed Robbery in Rural Belize

One man is hospitalized, and his girlfriend traumatized after their home which doubles as Estell Airport Hotel was invaded by three robbers.  The incident occurred yesterday evening at around five-thirty in Ladyville, Belize District.  Reports are that the couple was inside their home when one of the robbers came knocking querying about a room for rent.  Shortly after two more men came, one armed with a firearm.  The trio entered the house and began demanding money from the owner, Dudley Estell, and asking for a safe.   Estell’s daughter, Starlee spoke to Love News and explained the incident in detail.

Starlee Estell, Daughter of Victim: “As usual like he’s always on there sitting down because you know he’s elderly and you know people in the community always come to visit him so he was sitting there and apparently a car came in the yard and a guy came up the stairs and said that they wanted a room and they asked how much is the room. So when they asked how much is the room he told them that it’s $45 but to wait downstairs and somebody downstairs would assist them and so the guy said “No we want to come up.” and that was when according to him the other guy came up and they went up to him and said “No we’re coming up.” and when they came up they told him “Okay this is a robbery give me the money that you have.”. They took him in the room and he told them that he didn’t have any money and they threw him on the floor and the guy stood over him and they searched him and took his wallet out of his pocket and somehow within that time they shot him and then they threw his girlfriend on the floor as well and after that they just left. They got away with two cellphones and his wallet had about $1,400 in so that was what they got away with. When they came according to him they were just asking for the money and  they told him to “Show me the drawer that has the money.” and he kept telling them that “I don’t have a drawer with any money.” and so he said as well that they told him “If you don’t give me the money I’m going to kill you.” and so that was when they shot him and they took the wallet and they went.”

The trio then left the house and escaped in a blue SUV.  Quick response from the police intercepted a blue Ford Escape in Hattieville.  Three Belize City residents were detained pending charges.  Estelle is stable and has since been released from the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital.

Authorities on Ambergris Caye are tight lipped but Love News understands that an elderly European couple living on the island, was viciously attacked in a home invasion sometime last night.  Reports indicate that the wife was raped inside their condo on the beach in the southern area of San Pedro Town.  Love News understands that the couple was at home when the criminal broke into their home, assaulted the husband and proceeded to rape the wife.  It is uncertain if any personal belongs were stolen from the home.  Reports are that the couple was transported by ambulance to the San Pedro PolyClinic for urgent medical attention and are expected to be transferred to Belize City.  Love News reached out to the Officer Commanding the Coastal Executive Unit Superintendent Christopher Noble, but he referred us to the Commissioner of Police, Chester Williams.  Police Commissioner who is in the south on a working visit with the Minister of National Security has declined to give us an interview.
