Arrest Made in Broad Daylight Murder: Suspect Charged for Killing Jose ‘El Wapo’ Matus

Police have formally arrested and charged a resident of Peter Seco Street for the murder of Jose ‘El Wapo’ Matus.  27-year-old, Jimmy Rojas was read his rights, and charged yesterday for the crime of murder.  He is expected to be arraigned sometime today.  Rojas is the prime suspect for the January 12 murder that occurred at the corner of Maskal Street and Rio Grande Crescent in Belize City.  Matus was in the area dropping off two female friends when he came under heavy gunfire.  His two friends sustained minor injuries, but Matus did not survive.  It was a broad daylight homicide that prompted the Police to upgrade their crime prevention strategies, in the event of retaliation.  Matus was a known figure in the gang circles.
