If you were old enough to vote and politically inclined back in 2005, you may remember the popular group ACB. ACB stands for the Association of Concerned Belizeans. The group back then was made up of strong personalities like the Prime Minister’s ex-wife, Lois Young-Barrow and businessman, Karim Berges, among others. The 2008 election was approaching and the ACB got an early start in exposing much of what was going on in the PUP administration including secret contracts and deals. The group has gone underground for some years now as it was an operative of the then opposition who came into power in 2008. Fast forward to 2019 and the group is looking to make a comeback. In a social media post dated today, the group announced that they have been reactivated. The post reads, quote, We currently have a new executive board and headquarters which will be made public in weeks to come. The former executive board has been dissolved and its members were discouraged from participation as they have been painted with the political brush. Given the increased perception of corruption and the vast cases of political impunity we could no longer sit on the sidelines. There have been far too many suspected cases of misfeasance. Far too many cases of overnight millionaires. Far too many cases of corruption. It is time that a credible, non-political and unbiased group lobby for good governance on behalf of the Belizean people.” End of quote. We’ll keep watching and bring you an update when available.
