Attorney Anthony Sylvestre Nominated as Belize’s Attorney General

Attorney Anthony Sylvestre has been nominated to take over as Belize’s Attorney General.  A news release explained the rationale behind Sylvestre’s appointment, citing his various experiences in the public and private sector.  His professional experiences include services to the Belize Advisory Council on the Guatemalan Claim; member of the Income and Business Tax Appeals Board, as well as a member of the Policy and the Legislative Sub-Committee of the National AIDS Commission. Additionally, Sylvestre has served as a Senator, and a Crown Counsel in the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions. He currently holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Law from the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus in Barbados, and a Certificate in Legal Education from the Norman Manley Law School in Jamaica.  Currently, Sylvestre is the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the University of Belize and a director on the boards of Belize Electricity Limited and Belize Infrastructure Limited. His appointment takes effect on July 1, 2023.
