Attorney Orson Elrington is asking for him and his legal team to personally review the evidence being brought against him in his rape case. Elrington appeared in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court today to receive disclosure. He was granted partial disclosure in the form of a 41-page document containing some of the evidence the prosecution intends to bring against him. In court, Elrington said he was suspicious of the entire process and asked to visit the precinct where the alleged victim’s statements were recorded and view them himself. Attorney Norman Rodriguez explained how the trial is progressing.
Elrington was accused of raping a woman in January, after partying at a Belize City nightclub; however, he was not officially charged until March. The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Cheryl Lynn Vidal, who is handling the case personally, says that there was a lengthy delay in filing charges against Elrington, because she asked police to conduct a thorough investigation and uncover as much evidence as possible. Elrington is being represented by four attorneys in the case including his father, former Attorney General Hubert Elrington
