Is the government investing enough to keep its marginalized youth from falling victim to crime and violence? Attorney Richard Bradley, who also doubles as an advocate, believes adequate funds are not being allocated to ensure the country’s youth remain on the straight and narrow. His comments come after a minor was imprisoned under the state of emergency, sparking wide concerns from local and international oversight agencies. Bradley chided the government today for not doing enough to keep young men from seeking a life of criminality.

Richard “Dickie” Bradley, Attorney: “Let me tell you something. $200 million spent on the so-called Coastal Road. It’s not even a coastal road. $200 million spent on Coastal Road. According to the former leader of government, the Port Authority, which they bought for $200 million from Mr. Ashcroft, that broke up , pier isn’t even worth $40 million dollars. They can find money for other things. You all in the media, you all owe us to go get some facts. $400 million they settled Mr. Ashcroft thing. I bet if you go and get a court order that they release all the information to you, I bet they already paid that man all of his money. They don’t have a payment plan. No, no, no bax me off of this. I want to tell you that if they are serious put some millions of dollars into the young people of this country that are growing up indisciplined, have no manners, they are going to be criminals and they are going to be worse than the crop that we are dealing with currently. That is what is facing the country.”
The issue of youth being involved in crime was a major topic of discussion at the recent CARICOM meeting.
