Autism Belize Hosts Awareness Walks in Belize City and Hopkins

On Saturday, the community organization Autism Belize began a series of walks to raise awareness about autism spectrum disorder. Two walks were held simultaneously at six o’clock this morning in Belize City and Hopkins Village, in the Stann Creek District. Hundreds gathered for the event, which promotes education, empathy, and support for people living with autism and their families. Christy Almeida, Executive Director of Autism Belize, says that the activities were all about building a community.

While the act of walking is one way of showing support, Almeida says her hope is that the events will help to educate participants and the wider public.

The walks are being held to round out the activities for Autism Awareness Month.
