BAHA Clarifies It’s Not Responsible for Bee Attack Response

The Belize Agricultural Health Authority, BAHA is notifying the public that it is not the entity to call in the event of a bee attack. Over the weekend, a swarm of killer bees in the area of Sixth and C Street in Belize City killed at least six dogs. Concerned members of the public had reached out to BAHA seeking assistance, and some were concerned that they did not receive help. Today, Francisco Gutierrez, BAHA’s Plant Health Technical Director, said that while BAHA is not the department, it still assists by engaging the Ministry of Agriculture when these calls come in.

Belize City Mayor Bernard Wagner ultimately stepped in to assist and contracted the services of Orellana’s Bee Rescuing Service from Orange Walk to deal with the situation this past weekend.
