The governments of Belize and the Republic of China Taiwan today inaugurated the Yarborough Court facility in Belize City. Our intern, Malique Mariano was there to report on the event.
Reporter: The residents of Yabra now have access to a newly renovated basketball court. The initiative falls under Belize City House of Culture and Downtown Rejuvenation Project. Area representative for the Albert Division Tracy Taegar Panton spoke more of the project.
Tracey Taegar Panton, Minister of State for Investment: “This project was envisioned quite some time ago as far back as maybe 2009 in which we wanted to preserve the green spaces in our community and also the colonial buildings in our community which serves to tell- allows us to congregate and also helps to share our history.”
Reporter: The area representative said that there is more work to be done under this project.
Tracey Taegar Panton, Minister of State for Investment: “The covering of the Yabra Basketball Court, the roofing of the basketball court is only phase one of this project. There is also the rehabilitation of the Yabra Football field which will be phase two, there will be restoration works that will be done at the House of Culture, restoration works at the St.John’s Cathedral, we are looking at a project for the Supreme Court building in Belize City, there is the Anglican Cathedral College urban gardens that is a part of his initiative as well as the Paslow Lot across the swing bridge.”
Reporter: The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2019. His Excellency Ambassador Timothy Xiang and other guests and residents attended the event today.
The Taiwan ICDF funded the project which is being executed by the ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation.
