BCCI Boosts Debate Training to Strengthen Democratic Engagement

The Belize Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) has taken steps to enhance its engagement in regional debate training, equipping its members with the skills necessary to contribute meaningfully to public discourse. As the election season unfolds, debates have emerged as a pivotal platform for constituents to evaluate their standard bearers, witness their responses to pressing questions, and assess proposed solutions to local and national issues. Despite this, it rarely ever occurs. Katherine Meighan, President of BCCI, emphasized that by advocating for these platforms, BCCI aims to empower citizens, encourage informed decision-making, and strengthen democratic processes nationwide.

In 2020, a Prime Ministerial Debate was scheduled to take place prior to the general election but never came to fruition.
