BDF Captain charged for the death of Adrian Usher

A captain of the Belize Defense has been slapped with a slew of charges in relation to the fatal road traffic incident that claimed the life of Adrian Usher. On Saturday night, Usher was on his motorcycle heading to Spanish Lookout when a head-on collision with a pickup truck that was driven by 56-year-old William Swan happened. As a result, Usher was flung to the pavement and died on the spot. Today, police formally arrested and charged Swan with Manslaughter by Negligence, Causing Death by Careless Conduct, Failure to Give Way to Motor Vehicle on a Major Road, and Drove Motor Vehicle without Due Care and Attention. The BDF soldier was arraigned in court and granted bail in the sum of $6,000 plus 2 sureties. His matter was adjourned for disclosure to be provided on June 20, 2023. At the time of the incident, Swan was driving a vehicle belonging to the Department of Youth Services (DYS). There have been concerns regarding the use of the government vehicle on a weekend. However, Love News confirmed with the Director of the DYS, Kevin Cadle, that Swan, who is on a one-year contract to manage the Mountain Pine Ridge Youth Challenge facility, was preforming his duties when the incident occurred. We’ll have more on this story in tomorrow’s newscast
