Yesterday, a social media report emerged that soldiers of the Belize Defence Force have been complaining about the quality of the food they receive. The report suggests that protocols on how food is served was not followed and more so, it reflects a food shortage because the Force has not been able to pay its providers. This evening, the Force is speaking out on the report, saying that the video indicates some food that was “lumped” together for delivery away from the dining hall. The statement says that the Force has protocols on how food should be packaged for consumption outside the dining facilities. However, the statement adds that quote “the matter is being investigated and those responsible for not adhering to the protocols will be held accountable” Unquote. The release also points to a clear chain of command soldiers should follow if they have grievances or welfare issues. Because the video was shared on social media first, the force’s statement argues that those procedures were not followed. It adds quote “Evidently, the posting of the video on social media is clearly a mischievous act by all parties involved” End quote. We will continue to follow this story.
